1000 runs in Calender year

Australia’s captain Ricky Ponting completed 1000 runs in the calender year2009 when he reached 69 against India on Sunday at the Reliance stadium, Vadodara. This is the 6th time when Ponting scored 1000 or more runs in a calender year. He is the first player to score 1000 runs in 2009. However man in form Hamilton Masakadza of Zimbabwe is very much behind him with 936 runs in 20 matches. Ricky Ponting complete 1000 runs in 23 ODI with TWO hundreds and 7 half centuries. Earlier Ponting scored 1000 or more runs in 1998 (1166 runs), 1999 (1038), 2003 (1154), 2005 (1191), 2007 (1424) and now at the end of Sunday innings he scored 1005 runs this year. Sachin Tendulkar achieved this feat for 7 times and Ricky Ponting has to do it again in the coming years if he wants to surpass Sachin’s record. Sachin achieved this feat in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2004 and 2007. Sachin Tendulkar also holds the record of most runs in calender year. He had scored 1894 runs in 1998 in 34 ODI with the help of 9 hundreds and 7 half centuries. Sourav Ganguly scored 1767 runs in 1999, the year when he hit 183 during the world cup in England. After Sachin, Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting scored most time 1000 runs in calender year. Both have done for 6 times.
