Commonwealth Games is a very important sporting event held every 4 years. Participating countries look forward to this event with great levels of enthusiasm. Lot of preparations go into the events from the side of the host country as well as multiple countries take part in the Commonwealth Games. Delhi will host the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Allocation of Rs. 11.89 billion to upgrade the existing infrastructure of the city of Delhi.
Power production initiatives by the Government to scale up the existing 4500 Mw to 5880 Mw.
20 new Hospitals to be functional before the Commonwealth Games which would help facing any eventuality.
To demonstrate high levels of Hospitality to the visitors an additional 25000 rooms are being built by the Govermnet.

  • Hamilton, Canada witnessed the first Commonwealth Games back in 1930.
  • Commonwealth Games are conducted every 4 years, the exception being 1942 and 1946 when the events were disturbed because of the World War.

Shera is the official mascot of the 19th Commonwealth Games to be staged in Delhi in 2010. First introduced during the closing ceremony of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, the friendly Tiger Shera as a mascot has become an instant hit especially in India. Shera captures the true spirit of the Games and urges all to 'Come out and Play'.

Logo of the Commonwealth Games 2010 is a beautiful logo which is inspired by the 'Chakra', the national symbol of India. With an upward spiral the logo depicts the growth of India and beautifully captures the emergence of India as the next superpower and a great hospitable nation.

Commonwealth Games 2010 - Venues

There will be a total of 17 sports which will be featured in the 19th Commonwealth Games to be staged in Delhi, India. Six venue clusters and five stand-alone venues have been designated for the Games.

  • Cluster 1 (Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex): Ceremonies, Athletics, Lawn Bowls and Weightlifting
  • Cluster 2 (Indira Gandhi Sports Complex): Cycling, Gymnastics and Wrestling
  • Cluster 3 (Yamuna Sports Complex): Archery (Qualification Rounds) and Table Tennis
  • Cluster 4 (Siri Fort Sports Complex): Badminton and Squash
  • Cluster 5 (MDC National Stadium Complex): Hockey and Archery Finals (India Gate)
  • Cluster 6 (Talkatora Garden Complex): Swimming and Boxing
