India’s ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar, was honoured and felicitated for completing 20 years in international cricket by the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi before the start of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium, Motera.
Modi, who is also the president of the Gujarat Cricket Association, honoured Tendulkar on behalf of the state government.
Master Blaster Tendulkar was presented with a gold-plated memento of Somnath temple on behalf of the state government, a silver plate on behalf of the Gujarat Cricket Association and a shawl.
Tendulkar said it is time to move on now to concentrate on the Test series against Sri Lanka.
''Behind me there is the team, coach, players and family and the people of India. I don't need any external forces to motivate me. I value their support. But it is time to move on and concentrate on the job at hand,'' Tendulkar said.
''I thank the fans and all the people who have supported me throughout my career but I have started my preparation from yesterday,” he said.
''I hate losing and every time I go out to play for India I want to give my 100 per cent and contribute for the team,'' Tendulkar added.
