FOUR Hundreds in an innings
Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and MS Dhoni scored centuries against South Africa in the ongoing second test at the Eden Gardens. This was the only second instance when four Indian batsmen scored a ton in the same innings of a test. In the only previous occasion Indians have done it against Bangladesh at Mirpur in 2007.
Dinesh Karthik, Wasim Jaffer, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar have scored hundred at that time. Thus Sachin Tendulkar is the only batsman to be involve in the both occasion.
However this was the 19th instance when four or more batsmen have scored hundreds in the same innings of a test match. Five Australians have reached three figure mark against West Indies at Kingston in 1954-55 while FIVE from Pakistan scored hundred against Bangladesh under the captaincy of Waqar Younis at Multan in August 2001. These are the only two instances when five batsmen returned to the pavilion with a score of at least 100.
In the list of most centuries in an innings Pakistan is on top as 4 times four or more Pakistani batsmen scored hundreds in an innings and interestingly twice they have done it against India.
