Tuesday, October 13, 2009
South Africa struggled to throw off their label of semi-final "chokers" as theythrew away a strong position while chasing a target of 261 against India. The Proteas were 192-1 when centurion Herschelle Gibbs retired with heat exhaustion and they fell 10 runs short. In the other semi-final, Sri Lanka skittled Australia for 162 and cruised home by seven wickets. India were 14-0 chasing Sri Lanka's 244-5in the final when rain came - butcontroversial tournament rules stated that a completely new game should be started on the reserve day. The second game also fell foul of the weather soon after India's run chase had begun - so the Trophy was shared.
